|DIDCOT RAILWAY CENTRE TRANSPORT RALLY 04 JUNE 2017|
TV&GWOT is supporting the Didcot Railway Centre in organising their third Transport Rally on the first Sunday in June. TV&GWOT is co-ordinating bus and coach entries and organising vintage bus services on former Great Western Railway Road Motors, Thames Valley and City of Oxford bus routes from Didcot. Bus and coach entrants will be given two complimentary tickets for entrance to the Railway Centre.
In 2016 we ran services on the following routes:
Didcot Wantage via Harwell, East Hendred and Ardington
Didcot Wallingford via Brightwell
Didcot Blewbury via East Hagbourne
In 2017 we plan to reinstate the route to Chilton which we had to delete from the 2016 network due to extensive roadworks around the village. We will also introduce at least one other new route.
All buses will call at Didcot Parkway station on both outbound and inbound services where passengers will be able to join or leave the bus and gain access to the Railway Centre through the station building. Additional frequent services will run between the rally site and Didcot Parkway station.
As well as the buses there will be vintage cars and commercial vehicles, together with miniature railway rides and trade stands. The Rally admission fee includes access to Didcot Railway Centre for train rides, and shops and the refreshment room for souvenirs and sustenance.
A fully illustrated programme, giving a brief history of the vehicles entered, service timetables, vehicle duties and historical notes, will be available from mid-May. It can be purchased:
BY POST for £6.50 including first class p&p by either:
- Sending a cheque payable to TV&GWOT to Ledger Farm, Forest Green Road, Fifield, Maidenhead SL6 2NR, or
- Paying by Paypal (including any postal / delivery instructions in the notes)Entry Form
Entry forms may be downloaded from here.
In 2016 the event was centred on Didcot Railway Centre with the rally site on the nearby Didcot Foxhall Road APCOA car park (OX11 7HJ). A shuttle bus with 10 minute frequency connected the sites. We are not yet certain whether the rally site used in 2016 will be available in 2017 due to major construction works but we have identified an alternative site nearby if necessary which would be served by shuttle buses at the same frequency
