DIDCOT TRANSPORT RALLY AND VINTAGE BUS RUNNING DAY – 02 JUNE 2019

TV&GWOT is again supporting the Great Western Society organising a vintage bus running day as part of the Transport Rally alongside the Didcot Railway Centre on Sunday 2nd June. TV&GWOT is co-ordinating bus and coach entries and organising vintage bus services on former Great Western Railway Road Motors, Thames Valley and City of Oxford bus routes from Didcot. Bus and coach entrants will have two complimentary tickets for entrance to the Railway Centre.

Visitors arriving by car should follow signs to Didcot Railway Station to park.  There may be free parking in the streets opposite the station or for a fee in the car parks to either side of the Prince of Wales public house.  Note that Julians car park only accepts payment via Mobile Phone using Ringo.  Alternatively the new multistorey car park to the West of the Station and Railway Centre is open.  These locations provide ready access to the bus services in front of the station, the Railway Centre, and shuttle bus services to the static display in Ladygrove Park (there is no visitor parking at Ladygrove Park).

The running day bus services will operate from outside Didcot Parkway station with the Transport Rally a short walk away at Ladygrove Park (off Tyne Avenue), nearest post code OX11 7GA.  A shuttle bus with 10 minute frequency will connect the rally site and the Railway Centre and mainline station.

Running day bus services will run on authentic routes including:

Didcot – Wantage via Harwell, East Hendred and Ardington

Didcot – Wallingford via Brightwell

Didcot – Blewbury and Upton via East Hagbourne

Didcot – Chilton Circular via Harwell, Harwell Campus and West Hagbourne

Didcot – Abingdon

All buses will start from and return to Didcot Parkway station where passengers will be able gain access to the Railway Centre through the station building. All services are free and may be boarded at the bus stops on Didcot Parkway Station forecourt, from shuttle buses serving the transport rally site, or at outer termini.

As well as the buses and coaches, the Transport Rally will include a display or vintage cars and commercial vehicles, together with miniature railway rides, trade stands and refreshments.  Admission to the Rally site at Ladygrove Park is free but standard Great Western Society fees apply at Didcot Railway Centre, for steam train rides, the shop and refreshment room.

Supporters – There is an opportunity for TV&GWOT Supporters to get involved with the event by conducting, helping in the bus station, marshalling or any number of jobs to suit your skills – if you would like to volunteer please contact Peter : supporters@tvagwot.org.uk.
