Returning for our 12th year, the Kingsbridge Running
Day on Saturday 21st September is going to include some interesting
new routes as well as a different mix of vehicles for both regular
and new visitors to enjoy.
The Running Day will be centred on Kingsbridge Bus Station on the Quay, operating services
from 10.00 until 17.30.
The extensive network and full timetable give
visitors the opportunity to ride on a range of vehicles to
spectacular coast and country destinations all around Kingsbridge
and the South Hams. The routes we plan to use were formerly operated by
the Great Western Railway Road Motors, the Western National Omnibus
Company and/or other local operators such as Tally Ho Coaches and
the Coleridge Community Bus. In 2018 road closures affecting routes to the east of
Kingsbridge encouraged us to explore the network to the west of the
town. These were popular and will feature again in the 2019
timetable.
Features of Kingsbridge 2019 include:
|
- |
Services to East Portlemouth, South Pool & Sherford,
Goveton, Slapton, Salcombe, Hope Cove, Thurlestone, Bantham,
Loddiswell, California Cross, Bigbury on Sea, East Allington,
Kingston and Ringmore |
|
- |
Circular services
provided by Coleridge Community Bus
(in its 40th
anniversary year) operating a route fr
Kingsbridge to Beesands, North Hallsands,
Kellation
and Ford. Their bus provides
low floor access unlike more ‘vintage’ vehicles. |
|
- |
Special free vintage bus services to coordinate with
the Royal Visit and unveiling of sculptures in Kingsbridge and
Salcombe as part of the Salcombe lifeboat 150th anniversary
celebrations:

through Strete and along the coast. |

the Avon Valley combined with pre-war rail
replacement route 177 from South Brent. |

and facilities on Burgh Island in the morning and to the sheltered
bay of Blackpool Sands to the east of Kingsbridge in the afternoon. |
|

Short workings with a town service via Rack Park and a circular to
Churchstow offering round trip times of less than 30 minutes
so enthusiasts can sample a greater number of vehicles in the course
of the day. |

Aveton Gifford services. |
|

A number
of routes with duplicate vehicles
so

Traffic Notice 18 September
New routes have been added to the
schedule to avoid access issues currently affecting Hope Cove and
East Allington (see below). Instead the buses will provide more
frequent services to the beach at Bantham and go out to Moreleigh.
The traditional route through South Milton also features. Timings
for the revised routes are similar so the services still connect as
originally planned. In addition Service 108 to Soar will set down
and pick up passengers at the site of the AONB’s 70th anniversary
tractor display. |
