Supporters were invited to an exclusive open day at our Berkshire base to see the work of the Trust and get involved.

Some 50 Supporters came to our Open Day at our base in Berkshire on Sunday 17 January. This showcased some of the many volunteering opportunities available to Supporters and gave them an opportunity to view recent restoration work. There was the opportunity to sample several of the vehicles from the collection, to view the facilities and to sign up for a number of workgroups which we formed on the day. These include regular maintenance, restoration and vehicle preparation working parties which now meet most Wednesdays and Fridays and an archive group which is meeting on Saturdays.

New Supporters are always welcome. Enroll now for your chance to attend future Supporters’ events.

Current restoration projects which the Supporters were able to inspect included the 1927 Leyland Lion PLSC3, which has reached an advanced stage in its complete rebuild. Southern National 2065, our 1965 Bristol FLF6B, also made encouraging viewing following major bodywork renewal.

The 1929 Royal Blue AEC Reliance was seen in the early stages of its restoration, and Southern National 2932 was seen in storage awaiting its turn.

Fully restored vehicles in attendance included the 1927 GWR Guy; 446, our 1946 Thames Valley Bristol K6A; Thames Valley D40, a 1966 Bristol FLF6G; Reading Corporation 4, a 1957 AEC Regent III and the sole surviving 1966 Reading Corporation Dennis Loline, 76. Other resident vehicles from the wider collections of the Trustees were also on view, some restored and others in progress

The open day was an ideal opportunity for Supporters to find out what is required and consider how they might get involved.

A similar Supporters’ Day will be held at our Devon premises in due course – details will be published here.
