PREVIOUS TAVISTOCK MINI VINTAGE BUS RUNNING DAYS

For TV&GWOT a vintage bus running day is not just about riding on heritage vehicles, it is about recreating the authentic experience of bygone times.  This means operating over original routes researched from contemporary timetables and using vehicles of the types and in the liveries that would have been in service at the time.

Tavistock mini running days have exemplified that purpose and provide an occasional treat for the public to enjoy with specific period themes:

  · 2018 – “A Day Out in 1968”
  · 2019 – “A day out in the late 1960s”

The events are based on Tavistock Bus Station in the centre of the town.

A network of 11 routes, taken from Western National Tavistock area timetables of the late 1960s, venture to Calstock by the Tamar, Lydford, Princetown and Two Bridges on Dartmoor, and Yelverton.  Fourteen specially invited vehicles recreated the scene giving 2,500 passenger journeys to visitors in 2019.

Programmes produced for the events provide context and history with original articles and extensive illustrations.

Themes addressed in the pages of Tavistock Running Day programmes include:
