The Trust organises regular displays and vintage bus days, where you are able to enjoy a wide range of vehicles in their former habitats.

You observe first-hand how the vehicles performed in service and build your own sense of how bus and coach travel has developed through the generations.

Our events have gained a nationwide reputation for authenticity and adventure, recreating the full experience of road transport in bygone days. They have become established, popular attractions for local communities and enthusiasts alike.

Why not come along to enjoy the scene and join us for a free bus ride?

Our principal events from 2024 are listed below and include special one-off opportunities to celebrate and enjoy a day’s entertainment with family or friends.

This is an outline at this stage with forms for vehicle entrants and further details will be added for each event as plans develop. Vehicle entrants are invited to contact us by email: events@tvagwot.org.uk with specific questions to help their planning.

Taunton Vintage Bus Day – A return to the bus station

Sunday 2 June 2024

Perhaps you remember daily travel from the bus station over the decades or enjoyed vintage bus days when visiting vehicles recreated the scene with free rides on routes around Taunton?  Well, lament those times no more and put Sunday 2 June in your diary.  Return with us to the bus station in Castle Way for one day only (courtesy of Somerset Council, Taunton Town Council & NHS West), as we regenerate the friendly vibrancy for which these Taunton events were known.  Passenger experience and enjoyment are central to the event so we are keen to receive entries representing different decades of bus travel to suit young and old – you can enter online or download an entry form in Word or pdf formats.

Royal Blue Long-distance Coach Run – From country to coast

Friday 21 June to Sunday 23 June 2024

The annual Royal Blue & Associated Motorways vintage coach run recreates the spectacle of long-distance coach travel following the routes of a bygone era, using coaches of the same period. This year, they will travel along the highways and byways from Oxfordshire to Dorset, and then use the route pioneered 95 years ago by Royal Blue along the south coast to East Sussex, before making their way back across the Downs to north Hampshire.  Whether a veteran of many Royal Blue runs or interested in participating with your coach for the first time, you are warmly invited to enter.  Information on overnight stops and provisional routing can then be provided directly as plans develop. You can enter online or download an entry form in Word or pdf formats.

Cheltenham Classic Coach Gathering – 90 years after Associated Motorways was established there
Saturday 6 July to Sunday 7 July 2024

Cheltenham was the hub of Associated Motorways (AM) activity from its formation in 1934 as passengers swapped between colourful and luxurious coaches to continue their long distance journeys across the British Isles.  The bell rang out daily for the mass departure of the serried ranks of coaches…. until 1984 when the practise ceased. This unique event marks the 90th and 40th anniversaries respectively as well as 60 years since the first Bristol RE entered service for Royal Blue.  On Saturday coaches will follow their own inbound AM routes to Cheltenham from across the country developing an impressive display of design and luxury from the heydays of coaching (courtesy of Cheltenham Town FC, Whaddon Road). Entrants will partake overnight in hospitality traditionally afforded to coach drivers. On Sunday the rolling display and trips to the former coach station, its modern incarnation and the railway station will end when the bell rings out once again for a spectacular mass departure. But will you be there with a chance to ring the bell??  You can enter online or download an entry form in Word or pdf formats.

Tavistock Vintage Bus Day -  Adventures for all the family travelling back in time to the late ’60s

Sunday 4 August 2024

Hands up if you want to travel more than 50 years back in time by bus.  Of course you do! So, pack a picnic and bring family and friends for a fun day and explore travel around Tavistock as it was in the late 1960s.  For one day only, so bring your drawing pad or camera to capture memories of yesterday for tomorrow.

For an authentic recreation of the Tavistock scene, vehicles are by invitation rather than open to general entries.  So, if you have a former Western National bus that operated in Tavistock or is typical of marques that were there in the late 1960s, please email to express interest: events@tvagwot.org.uk

Kingsbridge Vintage Bus Day – Then and Now – Progress and Change

Saturday 21 September 2024

Each year, on the third Saturday in September, vintage buses and coaches converge on Kingsbridge and its small but perfectly formed bus station on the Quay giving free rides to surrounding countryside and coastal villages.  Small vehicles are well suited to the narrow lanes, with larger vehicles operating trunk routes to Salcombe, Slapton and Totnes (with its mainline rail connections), giving the event a distinctive character.  Known with affection locally as ‘the bus day’, visitors will be assured of an enthusiastic welcome as the town comes alive to the throb of the bus engines, a reminder of the continuing importance of bus travel in the rural area today.  Our 2024 theme is ‘then and now – progress and change’ comparing the modern scene with the context for a bus in the same spot 20, 40, 60, 80 or…. years ago.  Do please enter your bus or coach to join in.  There will be an excursion for entrants and volunteers on the Sunday.  You can enter online or download an entry form in Word or pdf formats.

In addition to these and other events organised by the Trust for Supporters, our vehicles also attend events across the country throughout the year. Details are published on the Home page and on our Facebook page.
