About the Event
Perhaps you remember daily travel from the bus station over the decades or enjoyed vintage bus days when visiting vehicles recreated the scene with free rides on routes around Taunton? Well, lament those times no more and put Sunday 2 June in your diary. Return with us to the bus station in Tower Street for one day only (courtesy of Somerset Council and NHS Somerset), as we regenerate the friendly vibrancy for which these Taunton events were known.
Souvenir Programmes including Timetables
Our souvenir programmes contain all the information you need to enjoy your day. There are details of the places, times and vintage buses so you can plan ahead. There will be visitor opportunities at Sheppy's cider, the West Somerset Railway, Rumwell Farm Shop and the new County Classics Motor Museum. Feature articles illustrate the heritage that the day will celebrate, like the bus station itself - a rare survivor of a style once common nationwide. Designed by H A Starkey, the bus company's architect, it opened in 1953 but closed in 2020. Articles are lavishly illustrated and include memories of a Taunton school boy in the 1960s and an account of the steps to restore a former Taunton-based training bus to roadworthy condition.
Programmes can be purchased in advance online (£8 inc p&p - immediate despatch by first class post). They are also available NOW for £7 from the County Classics Motor Museum on North Street in Taunton as well as on the day.
Vehicle Entries
Passenger experience and enjoyment are central to the event and we are delighted to have received entries representing different decades of bus travel to suit young and old. Entries are now closed.
Further details of the vehicles entered can be found here together with an outline of the routes.
